Passenger traffic, which significantly decreased worldwide and in Turkey during the Covid-19 outbreak, has increased rapidly since the beginning of 2022.
Turkish civil aviation, which overcame the negative impact of the epidemic with the measures taken last year, has started zihin upward trend in air traffic and passenger density. The increase that began in January lasted 10 months.
Compared to 2021, in the 10 months of the year there were significant increases in the number of passengers accommodated at the airports of Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen. 53 MILLION PASSENGERS TRAVEL AT ISTANBUL AIRPORT
According to information collected by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) website, 53 million 546 thousand 267 passengers traveled to Istanbul Airport in January-October this year. Of these passengers, 13 million 555 thousand 500 used domestic lines and 39 million 990 thousand 767 used international lines.
In January-October last year, 8 million 688 thousand 779 passengers on domestic lines and 20 million 714 thousand 751 passengers on international lines flew to Istanbul Airport. An increase of 24 million 142 thousand 737 passengers was calculated at Istanbul airport, where 29 million 403 thousand 530 passengers traveled in the same period of 2021 compared to the previous year.
Passenger numbers were determined to have increased by 82% over the same period a year earlier. Compared to the same period a year earlier, the number of passengers at Istanbul Airport increased by 56% in domestic flights and 93% in international flights.
DOMESTIC PASSENGERS DECREASE, INTERNATIONAL PASSENGERS INCREASE
In January-October this year, 12 million 737 thousand 406 passengers on domestic lines and 12 million 702 thousand 156 passengers on international lines flew from Sabiha Gökçen Airport this year. 25 million 439 thousand 562 people used this airport.
In the 10 months of last year, 20 million 331 thousand 524 passengers traveled from this airport, 13 million 607 thousand 456 domestic and 6 million 724 thousand 68 international.
While the number of passengers accommodated at Sabiha Gökçen Airport in the period January-October this year decreased by 870 thousand 50 in domestic flights, it increased by 5 million 978 thousand 88 in international flights. As a result, passenger numbers decreased by 6% on domestic flights and increased by 89% on international lines.
In January-October last year, Atatürk Airport was used by 47 domestic passengers, 406 international passengers and a total of 453 passengers.
In the 10 months of this year, a total of 78 million 985 thousand 829 people traveled from Istanbul airports, 26 million 292 thousand 906 on domestic lines and 52 million 692 thousand 923 on international flights.
It has been calculated that the number of passengers flying from Istanbul, which was 49 million 735 thousand 507 in January-October last year, increased by 59 percent to 29 million 250 thousand 322 people in the same period this year.
